David Swete – Volvo Ocean Racer with Team Alvimedica
You are invited to attend the first in our series of evenings celebrating outdoor learning on Thursday, 28th September here at Bohunt School Wokingham.
The evening will be in two parts. Firstly, there will be an inspirational talk from David Swete – Volvo Ocean Racer with Team Alvimedica, on his adventures and experiences. This will be followed by a showing of the Kendall film festival hit ‘Tom Siepp – A mountain journal’ , directed by Dom Bush – WINNER of Best Adventure Sport 2016.
David Swete will give a fascinating narrative of his experiences circumnavigating the Globe in the most gruelling Ocean Race on the planet. 46000 miles stopping at 11 countries over a period of 9 months, a top speed of over 36 knots and a 630 mile 24 hour run saw the boats really put the hammer down in the freezing waters of the Southern Ocean, passing no more than 400 miles from the ice of Antarctica.
10 days without changing your pants, not to mention no shower for up to 25 days……. eating freeze dried food, not sleeping for das, extreme temperatures and above all 9 months away from your friends and family, are all justified by the fact you are sailing around the world with 8 of your mates on the adventure of a lifetime. An epic race that saw a boat wrecked in the Indian Ocean and a dismasting off the infamous Cape Horn, Dave brings Bohunt the Story of Team Alvimedica, the youngest team in the 2014-2015 Volvo Ocean Race.
It is a great opportunity to learn about inspiring a team, leadership, resilience and developing yourself.
Doors open at 5.30pm for purchase of refreshments. The main event will be held in the school hall (in the main building) starting at 6pm. – 8pm
All proceeds go to the Bohunt Wokingham Outdoor activity fund. Our target is to raise £5000 to purchase equipment that can be used by students to enjoy the outdoor learning curriculum offered by the school. We look forwarded to welcoming you on the evening.
