Intent
Our vision for the Drama curriculum is to inspire and empower students to explore, understand, and express themselves through the performing arts. By cultivating creativity, critical thinking, and empathy, we aim to develop confident, articulate, and socially aware individuals who can collaborate effectively and contribute meaningfully to their communities by:
- Rigorous Curriculum: To provide a curriculum that is thorough and challenging, meets the vision of BET and engenders a joy of learning through the application of knowledge and a broad range of performance and core skills.
- Opportunities: To provide stretch and challenge opportunities within the curriculum and through numerous enrichment activities. We are consistently giving students opportunities in the classroom, and beyond, to develop skills to feel empowered and inspire others.
- Creative Expression: Encourage students to discover and develop their unique creative voices through diverse forms of drama and performance.
- Cultural Understanding: Foster an appreciation of the historical, cultural, and social contexts of drama and theatre, enabling students to understand, empathise and question the world around them.
- Collaboration and Communication: Promote teamwork, active listening, and effective communication skills through group projects, performances, and peer feedback.
- Personal Growth: Support the development of self-confidence, resilience, and emotional intelligence by providing a safe and supportive environment for risk-taking and self-expression. We want to provide students opportunities both in and out of the classroom to work out of their comfort zone, break barriers and take risks.
- Critical Thinking: Cultivate analytical and evaluative skills through the study of dramatic texts, performances, and the reflection on personal and peer work
- Enjoyment: Enjoyment in Drama lessons is key to their learning. We want to provide students with engaging and stimulating lessons that encourage students to participate and find joy in the subject.
