Intent

We provide students with an education that fosters musical literacy, creativity, cultural awareness, and personal development.  The majority of people experience music in their everyday lives, be that on television, radio, film, live, recorded, acoustic or electronic. As a result of this we aim to inspire and engage students, promoting a lifelong enjoyment and understanding of music. 

• We focus on developing technical skills to allow our students to translate their learning into sound and give them a musical voice. Students then develop their constructive knowledge of how musical components come together,  through performing, composing and appraising (through listening and analysis). These key skills are the basis of our Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 curricula and co-curricular activities which reflect the Eduqas and VCERT syllabi.
• We encourage originality and creativity through composing and arranging music in various styles and genres, integrating music technology to allow students to produce their own music using digital tools.  We also introduce students to music from different cultures and genres, promoting a global perspective and appreciation for diversity.
• This leads to creating well-rounded students who have developed self-confidence through performance and presentation opportunities as well as collaborative skills through ensemble performances, which foster teamwork and communication skills.  
• Ultimately the music curriculum provides a creative outlet for students to express their emotions and experiences, promoting ongoing participation in music beyond school through co-curricular activities, community involvement, and personal practice.
