Our English curriculum cultivates proficient communicators who can adeptly navigate both personal and professional relationships. We support students in learning to articulate their thoughts clearly and sensitively, thereby fostering stronger connections and a deeper understanding of themselves and others.
Central to our curriculum is the development of empathy and tolerance. We aim to equip students with the ability to understand and appreciate different cultures and perspectives through exposure to a diverse range of literary voices. We believe English is a gateway to the wider world, providing students with the tools to read, write, and communicate effectively in various contexts. This capability is essential not only for academic success but also for professional and personal growth.
Our curriculum emphasises the importance of analysing information with a critical lens, ensuring that students become successful communicators of the English language, both in written and spoken forms. Our curriculum focuses on skills-based learning, emphasising critical thinking and communication, which are essential for professional life and personal development.
Here at Bohunt Wokingham, we promote a growth mindset: encouraging students to remain open-minded, yet critical in their approach to texts and language. We aim for students to respect the power of the written and spoken word; the diversity of literature, and the act of engaging thoughtfully with texts.
We strive to empower students to take a critical and empathetic approach to the world they inhabit. By engaging with literature from diverse backgrounds, we encourage students to develop a global perspective and a greater understanding of themselves through the experience of others.
Our goal is to create an environment where students can craft and critique their own ‘game-changing’ texts, as well as understand and deploy the transformative power of language and literature. We aim to foster students’ ability to utilise and hone transferable skills, preparing them to experience and contribute to the world around them with a thoughtful and informed perspective.
