Intent

“The important thing is not to stop questioning. Curiosity has its own reason for existence. One cannot help but be in awe when he contemplates the mysteries of eternity, of life, of the marvellous structure of reality. It is enough if one tries merely to comprehend a little of this mystery each day.” – Albert Einstein

“Nothing in life is to be feared, it is only to be understood. Now is the time to understand more, so that we may fear less.” – Marie Curie

In science lessons, students will learn to:

  • Ask questions – to strengthen and stretch their knowledge. To make ties between the studied concepts and the world in which they live.
  • Understand, enjoy and marvel at the world around them – through practical and theory lessons which challenge their perceptions.
  • Think analytically, critically and creatively – to solve problems, judge arguments and make decisions.
  • Master their new-found  knowledge and skills – through hard work and repeated practice.

Scientific understanding is changing our lives and is vital to the world’s future health and prosperity, and all students should be taught essential aspects of knowledge, methods, processes and uses of science.

We will provide opportunities for students to critically evaluate information and to form their own opinions so that they are able to explore and evaluate the changing world around them.

Our curriculum is designed to engage all learners by increasing their science capital and giving them the knowledge and skills to succeed in science. We aim to develop scientifically-minded students with a continuing interest in science and the ability to continue their scientific studies post-16. Our students will be better prepared to respond to a changing future.
