Intent

Geography is a relevant and exciting subject to study today. Many of the world’s current problems are deeply linked to geography and need future geographers to help solve them.

Here at Bohunt Wokingham we develop geographers who: 

• Are global citizens with a comprehensive awareness of the wide world around them. 
• Have an appreciation for the rich diversity of cultures and people of the world. 
• Demonstrate empathy for the struggles of others. 
• Care about the natural world, including its past, present and future.
• Show confidence with technology to research and learn about geographical issues, including the use of GIS. 
• Are able to problem solve through the use of a wide range of geographical skills 
• Can formulate and communicate an opinion on divisive issues using a range of information provided. 
• Are driven to be game changers in the field, to help make a difference to their local and global community. 
• Wish to travel the world and see what they have learned about in the classroom in the real world. 

To facilitate the development of geographers we aim to provide a rich and diverse curriculum where students can study a wide range of human and physical issues. Students can expect to learn about relevant examples from around the world on current issues like climate change, migration and resource shortages. We aim to provide a range of enrichment opportunities including fieldwork trips, both locally and internationally. Through studying the subject, we hope students develop a love and understanding of the world around them.

Examination Preparation Materials

Geography examination papers allow for centres to choose from a shortlist of topics for study. This affects the way a student should approach the examination papers and this is described on the front cover of each paper.

For Paper 1: Living with the physical environment:

• We study Hot Deserts (rather than Cold Environments)
• We study Coasts (Question 3) and Rivers (Question 4) from Section C: Physical landscapes in the UK

For Paper 2: Challenges in the human environment:

• We study Water (Question 5) from Section C: The challenge of resource management
