Intent

Business Studies at Bohunt Wokingham is taught as a GCSE subject giving a foundational understanding of the business world and developing a wide range of transferable skills, relevant to a wide range of future career aspirations.
As we will all work in businesses or similar organisations in our adult lives, we teach not just the knowledge required of the academic subject, but also:

• Critical Thinking – by asking business related questions about specific business case studies, students develop the ability to analyse information objectively and form a reasoned judgment.
• Communication & Presentation skills – students discuss their ideas and present their conclusions to peers and the class. This develops active listening, clarity and persuasiveness in expressing ideas and the use of verbal and non-verbal messaging.
• A Global Outlook – The course considers the benefits and impacts of internationally operated businesses, including ethical and environmental considerations.
• Collaboration – We work frequently in pairs and small groups so that students explore their ideas and deepen their understanding.

We teach through academic facts, case studies, discussion and in-class activities, welcoming all opportunities to make the learning a practical experience, such as:

• Researching entrepreneurs.
• Understanding business operations and marketing through mini-projects.
• Using CVs and real-world job adverts as a basis to practise interviewing each other.

Examination Preparation Materials

The Business Studies department advise not to use the ‘Sample Assessment Papers’ because the principles of the examination have altered since their publication. The department also recommend actively working on question papers alongside the corresponding mark schemes to practice targeting responses to the examiners’ expectations.
