“Computers themselves, and software yet to be developed, will revolutionize the way we learn” – Steve Jobs
We develop game changers who approach real world problems using analytical methods, who also make educated choices about ever-changing technology and become responsible digital citizens that consider the environmental and cultural impacts of technology.
In Computer Science we encourage students to think about problems logically, critically and analytically developing students’ understanding of the fact there is more than one solution to a problem, however, there are ways to make each solution more efficient.
The curriculum in Computer Science offers a wide breadth of content for students to enjoy. Students discover how computer systems function by exploring the internal components within typical computer systems. Students also investigate how computer systems understand instructions and data, creating possible solutions posed to them in class in the form of an algorithm design or software program. We aim to create an environment where students build resilience by seeing if their solution works and, through perseverance, find a way to adapt it, if at first it does not solve the problem.
In Computer Science E-Safety is at the forefront of our curriculum. Every student who studies Computer Science discovers current issues regarding online safety and how to be a responsible citizen online. Students also discover the laws that are in place to protect users of technology and how to abide by them. Morals and Ethics are also considered in Computer Science as we delve into the large technology companies and discuss if their initiatives are fair on all stakeholders involved. Students are encouraged to consider how the technology we use has an impact on the environment we live in and consider alternative solutions to help protect the environment.
In Computer Science we ensure that students are able to achieve to their best of their ability by providing them with an engaging and enriching curriculum that is tailored to the ever-changing picture that the world of technology provides us with. This allows students to relate to the subject content and use real world application when developing their knowledge.

The GCSE Computer Science specification was recently updated. Where students have exhausted the question papers available for the current specification, they may wish to attempt the old specification papers linked here. The old specification assessed slightly more content, so students should be sensitive to questions that are assessing small amounts of content that stray outside of the knowledge they are required to have learned for their examination.
Past assessment materials are not available for this course.
